UK Student Visa for Nigeria Students โ€” 2026 Complete Guide

The UK Student Visa (formerly Tier 4) is your pathway to studying at any UKVI-approved university in the United Kingdom. As a Nigerian student, here is everything you need to know to apply successfully in 2026.

Step 1: Receive Your University Offer

Before you can apply for a UK Student Visa, you need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a UKVI-licensed university. Gangal Recruitment will handle your application and ensure you receive your CAS quickly once you have an offer.

Step 2: Financial Requirements

You must show that you can cover your tuition fees plus living costs. For 2026, the UK government requires:

  • London universities: ยฃ1,334 per month for up to 9 months (ยฃ12,006 total)
  • Outside London: ยฃ1,023 per month for up to 9 months (ยฃ9,207 total)
  • Plus your full first year tuition fees
  • This money must be in your account for 28 consecutive days

Step 3: English Language

Nigerian students from English-medium secondary and tertiary institutions are often granted IELTS waivers. WAEC and NECO English results may also satisfy requirements. Standard IELTS: 5.5โ€“6.5.

Step 4: Complete Your Online Application

Nigeria is a visa national country. UK Student Visa fee: ยฃ558 (April 2026), plus IHS ยฃ776/year. Biometrics via VFS Global in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt. TB test required. Processing: 3โ€“6 weeks.

You will need to: create a UKVCAS account, complete the online form, pay the visa fee (ยฃ558 as of April 2026), and pay the NHS Health Surcharge (ยฃ776/year for students).

Step 5: Biometric Appointment

You will attend a VFS Global or UKVCAS centre to provide your fingerprints and photo. After this, your application is sent to UK Visas and Immigration for processing โ€” typically 3โ€“8 weeks.

Your Degree Qualifications

Second Class Upper (2:1, 60%+) competitive for UK postgraduate entry. First Class (70%+) = Chevening/Commonwealth eligible.
